What is Your Worth?

The Living Bible says it this way, If you can find a truly good wife, she is worth more than precious gems. In the King James it says, Who can find a virtuous woman? Her price is far  above rubies.

I have always believed that in biblical times the woman’s family paid a dowery “mohar” to the man who was going to marry her. But today, when researching this verse I discovered that the dowery was paid to the woman, as a gift from her father, to take with her if her intended did not have sufficient means to give anything to her as his bride. It was typical for the man, if he was of any means, to give his beloved gifts to bring into the marriage. Not unlike what some do today with that spendy engagement ring.

So here we have Bathsheba telling her son, Solomon that a worthy woman is worth MORE than expensive rubies! This, ladies, was spoken well before the Women’s Right Movement came along!

It is said that the ruby was the most precious of the 12 stones that God created when He created all things. The “king” of all the stones on earth. A man of biblical times in the position of a king would have been well aware of this fact.

Do you value who you are today? Do you see yourself with a value far above rubies? It was curious to me that the stone here is red, and rubies of the greatest value are blue/red . . . the color of blood.

We know marriage in the Bible is pictured as the relationship between Christ and His Bride, the church. The gift God gives to us in the relationship He has with us is the Blood of Christ, it is our cleansing, our freedom, our hope & our salvation. Jesus paid for the eternal relationship He wanted with you and I with the ruby red blood of his own body. He has placed such value on us. How can we not value ourselves as who we are in Him, worth more than rubies?

The charm for today is: a Ruby Ring

Recite the verse:

Proverbs 31:10(a & b) Who can find a virtuous woman? Her price is far  above rubies.

Look at your engagement ring if you still wear it, remember that day it was first placed on your finger, was it magical, were you amazed that someone wanted you that much. Ask your spouse today if he had to put a value on you what would would that be? Pray the words of the verse and seek more insights from your heavenly Father on it.

Blessings!
